SVW Weekend in 2010 20th-23rd August in Germany

The weekend was a great success. There were more than 40 SVW cars at the event, which is a record. The weekend was organised by Guenther Pilz and other members of the MGCC Germany, who deserve our hearty thanks.

The Ratcliffe Cup was won by Henne Borgesius for his superb SA Keller bodied replica.

Many pictures of the event and of the cars and people taking part can be seen on these Flickr pages:-

  • Peking to Paris 2010!

This year, two Australian SA's are making the trip! Harry Hickling is going again following his trip in 2008, and he will be joined by Rhys Timms.

Rhys came to Brooklands recently to a welcome by the register organised by David Washbourne. After a good lunch, Rhys told us of his preparations for the trip to start in September this year. His co-driver will be John Hastie.

Rhys has a website which contains all the information. He also has a blog, and will use the site to update readers during the journey. Click here:mgsa36.com.au

    Frances Adam 1917-2009

Sadly, Frances Adam, Honorary President of the SVW Register, died on 15 August 2009. She was 91 and had been in poor health for some time. Her funeral took place at Basingstoke on 27th August, attended by some of Frances’ long-standing SVW friends together with their cars.

Frances was a great enthusiast of SVW cars, and was a very active Honorary Secretary for many years. She wrote many articles on maintaining the cars and was for a long time the sole source of supply for some of the spares.

Frances’ name will abide in our memories for many reasons, not least with the annual presentation of the Frances Adam Award, this being a painting commissioned by Frances showing an SA, WA and VA, the latter being her beloved ELL 148, which she owned for more than sixty years.
