To Colin Pratt, our dear friend
It is with great sadness that my family and I heard of Colin Pratt losing his battle against his illness. We met Colin and Lis some twenty-five years ago and right from the start a close relationship to the Pratt family developed. On many occasions, they stayed with us in Switzerland or we went visiting them at their home, first in Basingstoke and later at beautiful Wickham. More than once, when they came over to Switzerland in one of their MGs, poor Lis had to actually sit on the many spare parts they brought along for my cars and sometimes, Lis even had to carry some bulky parcel on her lap – all the way from Britain. This is what the MG Car Club is all about. We knew Colin as a cheerful, warm and outgoing person, who always lent a helping hand to anyone in need. Once, while spare parts hunting at Birmingham, I had a major breakdown with my Rover SD1. Colin picked me up at this rainy midnight and towed me all the way to Basingstoke, with his MG Montego. There, at three o’clock in the morning, Lis was waiting with a hot cup of tea and a sandwich. Also there were two motor mechanics, who Colin had organized. After an emergency-repair of the oil pump, I could drive off the next morning, just in time to catch the ferry to the Continent. I also remember many an MG event when Colin lent a helping hand to anyone who had a problem with his car. It did not matter then if Colin wore his Sunday’s best – he always was first underneath the car. When short of tools, he used his trusted Swiss Army Knife that I had given him as a present a long time ago. Colin even inspired our two children. So much so, that they sometimes visited the Pratt family on their own, and our daughter named her son after Colin. To us, Colin will always remain “Mr. MG” and we all miss him and will always keep him in our hearts.

SVW cars on the pre 56 rally held in South Island, New Zealand
The pre 56 rally was held this year at Geraldine, in South Island. Shown here on the way from North Island are three of Gary Wall's SVW cars-in the foreground is his WA Tourer, behind on the left is his WA Saloon, and to the right is his VA Tickford.
Gary loaned six of his cars to overseas visitors and great fun was had by all.
SVW Weekend in 2010 20th-23rd August in Germany
The weekend was a great success. There were more than 40 SVW cars at the event, which is a record. The weekend was organised by Guenther Pilz and other members of the MGCC Germany, who deserve our hearty thanks.
The Ratcliffe Cup was won by Henne Borgesius for his superb SA Keller bodied replica.
Many pictures of the event and of the cars and people taking part can be seen on these Flickr pages:-
